STRATEGIES TO STAYING RELEVANT IN THE WORKPLACE- Adapting To New Technological Tools and Software.

If there’s one thing I’m very certain about, it’s the basic fact that the world is constantly evolving, and our technological software isn’t left out.

A few days ago, Blessing, a participant in cohort 1 of the Skilled For Work Academy, sent us a fine testimonial about how her boss gifted her cash after she implemented what she learned in the program. According to Blessing, the new technological tools she learned, which she introduced at work, have significantly improved her performance, reflecting on the organisation’s workflow and productivity. We cannot overemphasise the need to embrace technological advancement and use it to help our productivity.

Getting acclimated to workplace software and tools has become very important to staying relevant in today’s job market. Technology has improved significantly over the years, and now, all organisations have realised the need to stay updated as new features and tools are rolled out periodically.

Hundreds of applications are updated monthly, and staying up-to-date is crucial for staying competitive and relevant at your workplace; hence, you must constantly hone your technological skills.

Here are 5 ways you can adapt to new technology software in the workplace

1. Develop A Learning Mindset:

Just like Blessing, who knew she was rusty and was open to learning, you need to approach new technology with an open and inquisitive mindset. Recognize that learning new tools and software is a continuous process and be willing to invest time, money, and effort into acquiring new skills. You cannot learn without having a positive mindset.

2. Invest In Training:

Learn about new technologies and software tools by taking classes and attending workshops, webinars, programs, etc. Organisations are committed to offering training to teach you about the updated features of technological software. The I-Train Africa Skilled For Work program is a good place to hone your technological, soft, and digital skills. Participate actively and ask questions.

3. Stay Updated:

Stay informed about emerging technologies, trends, and best practices relevant to your industry or role by subscribing to industry newsletters of thought leaders, following relevant social media pages, and joining online communities such as the Skilled for Work Telegram group.

4. Start From The Basics:

Start with the technology or software’s basic functionalities before moving on to more advanced features. Break down complex tasks into smaller, manageable steps and gradually build your skills over time.

5. Apply Learning in Real-World Scenarios:

Look for opportunities to apply your newly acquired skills in real-world work scenarios or projects. Volunteer for tasks requiring new technology or software to gain hands-on experience and demonstrate proficiency. An internship will also be a great way to use these skills. This is incorporated into the Global Career Path Model at the Skilled For Work Academy.

By following these strategies and approaches, you can effectively adapt to new technology and software used in the workplace, enhance your skill set, and contribute to your professional growth and success.
